Five compact pieces begin as patterns that could continue indefinitely. Peers' editing is as important as the system: he decides when repetition has made its point and turns open-ended processes into a tightly bounded EP.
How the machine enters
Peers describes creating endless cyclic patterns and then moulding them into short pieces. His documented Music for Machines & Systems practice uses Max/MSP to layer non-repeating patterns and trigger structural changes when numerical conditions are met, while he plays and adjusts hardware synthesis by hand.
