Ultrasonic plant recordings return as bright static, clipped percussion and unstable electronic weather. The record's strongest move is not making nature sound soothing: its designed translation keeps the source strange, then lets human sound design give that strangeness shape.
How the machine enters
Ward 7 recorded field sound and ultrasonics in Pilar, Paraguay, converted spectrogram images from the ultrasonic recordings into audible material through a designed sonification process, then sculpted the result into percussion, modulated waveforms and new timbres. The artist explicitly states that no generative AI was used.
